Nifty Accutron 214 Spaceview Desktop Clock

Bulova plans to manufacture Accutron, again. The REAL Accutron watches and movements, not those with a mere 'brand'.

Reminds me of this Accutron 214 Spaceview Desktop Clock. Not for retail but as Point of Sale display and award for Accutron dealers back then. Not every Accutron dealer could get it. Hence it carries special memory and pride.

Love both movement and dial for sure. But equally love the 'box'. It represents very fine Swiss industrial engineering. Joints are almost seamless. We often overlooked the contribution and support by Switzerland's very advanced industrial engineering for modern watch manufacturing. A Swiss university, ZTH, has been pionner in this field for decades.

It was given to a friend's late father, a gorgeous watchmaker and dealer, in 1960s. He opened a watch shop in 1950s. Sold and serviced many Accutrons between 1960s and 1970s. Bulova's regional office presented this SpaceView clock to him as special award.

Boomer, another gorgous watchmaker and Accutron dealer in Indiana sicne 1973, recognised it in seconds! For full account + an orignial 1960s Accutron catalouge featuring this clock by Dr. Accutron, see the post Accutron Forum in Watch and Clock Forum:
http://watchandclockforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=87&t=1744

Last, but not least, Accutron also made its way to the Space. NASA selected Accutron for Gemini and Apollo missions. Two Accutron clocks (bigger model, I suppose), too, in the cockpit of Air Force One. Still now?
